First Guntersville Senior of 2011: Guntersville Alabama Senior Photographer

Miss C is our first 2011 Guntersville Senior for this year. Her, her mom and her sister were some of the sweetest most precious women I have ever met! When Miss C told me that she wanted to take a picture with her danceline boots, t'shirt and blue jeans shorts I knew that I wanted to try out the super cool location that Tequila (the awesome photographer who I am teaming up with for weddings) had showed me a couple of weeks ago. Beach Sessions!!!

BEACH SESSIONS JULY-15 through JULY 20

I have had tons of requests for beach pictures, so for those of you interested:

We are offering sessions from July 15-July 20th in Gulf Shores. We will only be taking one family per evening so if you're interested I would recommend booking as soon as possible. The session fee is $125 (same as regular sessions).

Also as far as clothing I would not recommend the standard white tops and khaki bottoms. Instead, I would encourage you to bring in some color and even cotton dresses for the girls (anything that you would normally wear for a typical summer session) Also, for those of you with little ones, bring their swimsuits so we can get some super cute bathing suit shots. They always turn out super cute! :) Amber

These two precious sisters came to visit us yesterday at the studio. After checking with mom to make sure it would be ok if we gave the girls swirly pop suckers, she told them that if they would be really good she would give them the suckers at the end of the session (nothing like a little bribery huh? :) Well as you can tell they did super! Little Miss M (who is one of the cutest little babies I have ever seen) came to visit our studio this past week. Sorry that I have neglected my blog here recently, but we have had so many fun things going on here at the studio and at home. B Mac has been taking swimming lessons these past two weeks with Ms. Kim Lecroy and has been loving it!!!! I've been interviewing second shooters for weddings and have fallen in love with Tequila Sanders who will be partnering with me for my upcoming weddings and I am super excited about it. For those of you waiting on your sneak peaks I will have them up by tomorrow afternoon! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer and trying to stay cool :) Amber

Cover Baby: Alabama Children's Photographer

It was so exciting to see one of my photographs on the front of Valley Babies Magazine for the April/May issue, but the sweetest part was that it was my baby. I just had to share B Mac's cover shot with everyone. This was actually taken right out side of the barber shop when B Mac got his first hair cut. Is he not the cutest thing you've ever seen? Amber

Miss H came to visit us at the studio today, which also happens to be her birthday. It has actually been a tradition to have her pictures made on her actual birthday every year. I had so much fun at this session playing and trying out some new props and backdrops. I have been in a creative slump here lately and Miss H got me out of it. She was totally willing to try on some of my headbands and sit on a few tires.......and all without one complaint. Happy Mother's Day! Guntersville Alabama Photographer

I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day yesterday! For me, it was absolutely perfect! From the time I woke up to the time I went to bed, someone was doing something special for me. I took some pictures of a couple of the sweet things that I got yesterday. The first is my new camera bag that Brady Mac got me (which I have been wanting for a long time now, and didn't realize anyone knew I had been wanting it. So, you can imagine how surprised I was to get it) and the second suprise was some hand picked flowers and a love note (which I will admit may be the first I've ever gotten). So it may come as no surprise to hear that this is the absolute sweetest most precious Mother's Day I have ever had and I hope everyone else's was equally as fantastic!!

As a photographer, you would think I would have tons and tons of pictures of my lil man, but it just seems that I get so busy with work and life that taking pictures of him somehow gets continually put on the backburner. Well this morning he was looking so cute and in the best mood, so I decided that now was as good a time as ever. I went into the studio and set up the backdrop and tried to lure him in there. My plan at first was to just get him to sit on the chair and just see what happens. He, however, let me know real quick that this session would not be taking place without his guitar. When I tell you that I cannot get enough of him, that is a complete understatement. He is the absolute cutest thing that I have EVER seen. I know I may be biased as his mom, but come on those blue eyes and that blonde hair get me everytime. Oh and I realize that I'm not the only one who is a sucker for him too. He informed me this morning that he had a girlfriend and that her name is Ashley. Well, I don't know Miss Ashley, but you best believe I'm going to be looking for her :) Amber

For those of you patiently waiting for your teasers, I apologize for the hold up. We had a family emergency down in south alabama at the beginning of this week. I would say that I believe these are my last Guntersville girls for 2010, but there always seems to be a few procrastinators that wait until the very last minute and force good ole mom to rush order those prints. For those of you who remember, we did a giveaway back in December in which people nominated a deserving family that could truly not afford the luxury of custom photography. Well, this is part of the wonderful family that was chosen. Because there are so many kids (9 in all) we've decided to break it into multiple sessions which should be finished some time by the middle of May. The first of the group to visit us was Miss Z and Miss I. If you can't tell they are twins (although completely different in just about every way) and were so much fun to photograph. The session went perfect and they were super easy and super sweet (Miss I even invited me over to her house to go swimming). I am so thrilled to be able to work with yall and I cannot wait to meet the rest of your family! Amber

Winter Weather and Valentine's: Guntersville Alabama Photographer

I just wanted to share the beautiful flowers my sweet husband got me from The Rock House Flowers for Valentine's Day and some of the snapshots of Brady Mac playing in the snow. I love the first one of him because he is always so animated with his hands. I also had to share the last picture of him too because he does this face ALL THE TIME, it is his "really excited face" and as a mother I totally love this expression. Amber

On A Personal Note

For those of you who don't know, we just found out in January that we were pregnant. We have been so ecstatic with the news and excited about the new addition to our family. Well a couple of weeks ago I experienced some unexpected bleeding and went immediately to the hospital for fear that there was something wrong with the baby. After running some tests, the doctor told us that my body wasn't producing progesterone (which is needed for fetal development) and that I would need to take supplements and be monitored for the next couple of weeks. We made an appointment the following week to do an ultrasound and after waiting for what seemed like an eternity we were beyond thankful when we saw the heartbeat during the ultrasound. Although the baby was so tiny I could literally see its little heart beating. Although this was really good news the doctor told us that the heart was beating slower than she would like to see and scheduled another ultrasound for a week later. When we went back this time, there was no heart beat; our baby had passed. I can't express how devastated I am over the loss of the baby. I will never know what it would have been like or who it w ould have become. But I do know that I love this baby with all my heart and I don't ever want it to be forgotten. The picture I have above is the sonogram from the first visit. It is the only picture I have of my baby and I wanted to share it with everyone. Although this has been one of the most tragic events of my life, it has shown me how lucky I am. It has brought me closer to my husband (who besides God has been my rock during all of this). He has taken up the slack when I literally could not pick myself up and he has been so patient with me no matter how upset I get. I am so thankful to God for giving me such a wonderful life, family, husband, and an amazing son that I truly don't deserve, but I also want to thank Him for giving me the oppportunity to carry this baby, I know that we will meet one day, but until that day I will love you from here.

I want to apologize for the serious neglect of my blog as of lately. We have been so super busy......in fact this is the busiest I have ever been! Ann & Edward Marsh started out as foster parents and have adopted 7 wonderful children. They were nominated by Angie Wright, who told me the most amazing story about them. I'm going to have to find out if I can share their story with everyone before blogging about it....but it is truly beautiful. As soon as I read it I crawled into bed with my husband and started crying.....I have heard many stories that have shaken me emotionally, but this one truly touched my heart! Amber

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas! I have had such an amazing time today with Brady Mac and the rest of my family! As a mother, the Christmas season seems to mean even more to me than ever! As I was watching Brady Mac open his presents today, all I could think about was how wonderful God is to all of us. The fact that he could send His only Son to be born and die for us is a love that I cannot fathom. My love for Brady Mac is stronger than any love I have ever felt, yet it doesn't compare to the love that God has for us. So, remember the reason for the season and have a blessed Christmas with the one's you love! Amber

Oh, and I thought I would share some snapshots I took of Brady Mac this morning with his new drum set that Santa bought him......he has been wanting one for a long time and once he saw it we could barely pull him away to open up anymore presents :) Merry Christmas!

A Family Full of Boys: Guntersville Alabama Photographer

Check out all of these boys (3 months, 3 years and 5 years)....they were a ball of energetic fun! They played on tricycles and firetrucks and even wore super-hero capes. A couple of times I almost had a minor heart attack from all the stunts these two were pulling. They were all boy and all daredevil!!! Today was Brady Mac's birthday party and the little man had so much fun! He is obsessed with tractors and he got both a tractor cake and a riding tractor.......and he was in tractor heaven!!! We gave him a cookout/campfire party in my mom's backyard by her firepit. The weather turned out perfect and we were able to roast marshmellows and have smore's. It turned out super cute and I believe we got little man's approval. Happy Birthday Brady Mac, your Momma loves you tons!

Guntersville Museum's Festival of Trees: Guntersville Alabama Photographer

The Guntersville Museum is having their First Annual Parade of Trees Exhibit. They have asked Guntersville businesses to decorate a tree in a theme of their choosing. Yesterday and today were the designated decorating days and we had so much fun seeing everyone's trees (they are all really great!) and decorating our own. The showcase will be up until after New Years and they will be having music and singers on the weekends to help entertain visitors as well! I would recommend this to anyone (especially if you have children) they have a huge Santa display that was amazing and it is sure to get anyone in the holiday spirit. Brady Mac went to help setup today and had so much fun and I believe he checked out every single Santa that was there.

We had a session with some of my favorite clients. They are always so sweet and laid back and I love being able to work with them (plus check out their sweet baby girl......I could just squeeze those cheeks all day!) But, on a side note.....you might recognize the little man in the last two pictures. Well, he helped me out today as one of my assistants on his first official photo shoot (no worries.....we pay him very well with candy.....or can can as he calls it) It was so funny because he was watching me take pictures of Miss E (the sweet baby girl) on this sled, and he was starting to feel a little jealous about Mommy spending time with another baby. So, after we wrapped up the shoot, he went over to the sled (and posed himself....he looks like one of my two week old newborns which really cracks me up) and asked me to take his pictures like I did the baby. So, here you go Brady Mac, Mommy Loves You!

When I first started photography, I use to get soooo excited to do session of little girls. They were always so fun with their dress up clothes, dolls and imaginary play toys. Well I am hear to tell you that little boys are JUST as fun! They are so interested in other things such as trains, trucks, rocks, capes, etc. I always get super excited when I get to do a session with a little boy, because I know we are going to spend almost the entire session playing. Here is one of my latest images: just a little boy, in a truck, playing with a rock..........now it doesn't get any sweeter than that! Amber

I get numerous emails from photographers (many who are just starting out) with questions about my workflow and editing, the locations that I choose etc (which I really don't mind as long as there not local...promise I love other photographers and have tons of photographer friends...its always fun to talk to someone who gets it). I also get daily emails and facebook messages about who is "copying my work" locally, who is emailing trying to find out where my locations are and who is changing wording on their website to match mine, etc (believe me you have no idea how competitive this industry has gotten (or what a small place the internet acutally is)......I think we should actually create a soap opera about it.........it would be way more dramatic than General Hospital haha). So, instead of getting all bent out of shape about things, I want to give some advice that was given to me when I first started and was completely overwhelmed about where to turn for creativity. I know many times people feel that the only place to turn is other people.....but the best place to turn is within yourself. What inspireds you? What makes you happy? What is your creative style? For me, I love texture (the texture of old wood, peeling paint, and the hues of bright colors) just look at the interior of my house it is filled with these things. There is a quote that one of my dearest friends shared with me once........"Be Yourself, Everyone Else is Taken" For me, that saying is huge. We can borrow someone else's ideas, we can borrow someone else's style.....but in the end that is what it is......someone else's. So, I encourage you (no matter who you are) to get out there and figure out who you are, what you like and where you want to go. I know as women especially, we sometimes feel that the path is already laid out there for us. We never get a chance to figure out who we are......we're just someone's mom, someone's wife, someone's sister, or someone's employee. Well stop defining yourself by what you do and get to know who you are. With this realization comes other realizations as well. Get to know yourself and you will get to know your style, your likes, your dislikes and most importantly who you are as a person. God has a plan and has given a talent to each and every one of us. Use the gifts he has given YOU, they are unique to YOU. And for my favorite quote: "Our talents are our gift from God. What we do with those talents are our gift to Him." Now I will leave you with a picture. I found this little spot yesterday while riding around to look for some new locations. When I saw this little spot in the field, I was completely inspired; not by another photographer's work, but by God's. I promise you no other photographer can create something anymore beautiful than the work that God has created. So get out there and get inspired! With Much Love, Amber

A lot of people have been asking me to do Christmas-Themed Mini-Sessions like I did last year. So, since yall are all so sweet and I want to make yall happy.......I've decided to do Vintage Christmas Mini-Sessions (with the setup above....which is the same as last years) for all of you who missed out. So, here is the info:

The session fee is $40 and includes a 15-20 minute session, detailed editing of your images and example holiday cards for you to purchase. I will be doing these session for the month of November only, that way it will give us plenty of time to design and order your Christmas cards without putting everyone in a rush or panic. The session fee does not include cards, but cards, prints and other goodies will be available for purchase :) Also, to make the sessions extra customized, you are welcome to bring your own stockings, or you can use some of ours.....or if you're wanting to be able to keep these pictures up all year, you can do it without stockings (like in the third image shown). Wallace Wedding: Guntersville Alabama Wedding Ph

As many of you may know, I got married this past Saturday. I figured a lot of people would be curious to see what some of my wedding pictures looked like so I thought I would post a couple (ok so I ended up showing more than a couple but I just loved how everything turned out). For those of you wondering who I got to do my photography........that would be Yours Truly (ME) I know it sounds crazy and in fact it was crazy. I knew I wouldn't be happy with someone else's images so I decided to take on the photography myself. I must admit that I do love the images I got, but am bummed about not being able to capture everything. I really wish I would have been able to capture more family shots for sure. I also wanted to give some shout outs to all the fabulous people that helped make this wedding so beautiful.

First is to Kim from the Rock House Flowers. She did an amazing job not only with the flowers and decor of the wedding, but also by helping it flow smoothly as well. She put so much thought and planning into this wedding and I can't thank her enough.

Second is to Amanda from The Garden District. Not only was the food absolutely delicious but it looked killer awesome too! Plus, she is totally hysterical and has a fun assistant Anna.

Also a big shout out to Mikey and April for your help both before during and after the wedding.

Also thank you to both sides of our family for helping pull this off and supporting us through the whole process. I love you all more than words can express and thank God that he blessed me with such wonderful gifts!

Also I want to thank Brady Mac, for being the most amazing son in the world. Whenever I was and am stressed out, just looking at him puts my entire world right again.

To Shannon (my groom) I love you and thank you for treating me the way every woman wants and deserves to be treated. I never wonder where I stand with you or if you would rather be with anyone but me. You make me happy to be the person that I am and leave me with the desire to be more. I love you with all my heart!

A Lovely Family Session: Guntersville Alabama Family Photographer

I am starting to love family sessions more and more. Its so exciting to see an image of the entire family fall in place, and to capture an incredible shot of the entire family is something to truly cherish! We had a session today with such a precious family. They were so easy to photograph and brought the most amazing clothes. I love when clients play around with textures and colors with their outfits, it always give the images so much more of a photojournalistic feel. I absolutely love the first image of the entire family and this second shot of the girls just makes me smile. Client Displays: Guntersville Alabama Photographer

This is a 24x36 framed image on display in a client's home. I just wanted to share this with everyone to help others get an idea of how to incorporate larger sized wall portraits in their homes. The image under the wall portrait is a 5x7 that I did for them during the same session (helps show you just how small those 5x7's really are). I know everyone thinks of an 8x10 as big and an 11x14 as huge, but I wanted to give an example of how bold a statement you can make with the larger sized wall portraits. For all of the clients who have their images displayed on their walls at home, if you get a chance email me a picture and I will post it on my blog. Oh how much do I love our new wedding album....TONS! I received the one pictured above in the mail last week and let me just say that I was totally and completely awestruck! They are absolutely beautiful. They are made with Japenese bookbinding fabric and swiss ribbon. The company has tons of fabric and ribbon choices to choose from, making them completely customizable. I always disliked the bold leather wedding albums that seem to be so popular today. For me, they just seem too masculine and impersonal. These, however, are so elegant and the ability to customize the fabric and ribbon choices lets each couple design their album according to their style and color preferences; making it ultra personal. I just can't say enough about these albums, I hope yall enjoy! Amber

Ok, so we have some big news to share with all of you. I know some of yall have noticed the for sale sign infront of the building, so I thought I would go ahead and let everyone know that that were not going anywhere......well I take that back, actually we are. We are moving to a bigger location just down the road. Our new address will be 701 Blount Avenue, Guntersville. We will be located right inbetween Old Jail Storage and United Way. I'm super excited about the upgrade but also sad to see the first studio (well actually second, the first was out of my laundry room) go. I took these pictures today not only to show everyone but to also have a keepsake to remember this place by. Its super fun to see how much the business has grown and I want to thank all of my clients, who help make it possible for us to continually grow in size, creativity and service!

My Boy: Guntersville Alabama Children's Photographer

I had the chance to go out and spend some time playing and taking pictures of Brady Mac last week. I've been so busy lately and haven't had many opportunities to do this as often as I would like, so I really cherish the times we get to do this together. I know as a parent, it can be really difficult to take pictures of your own children (and trust me it is the same way for me too). But, just like with everyone else's children I have to make sure to engage my child and be patient with him. Right now, Brady Mac is in love with his tricycle (which he calls a tractor). I wanted to share this image with all of yall because I love it so much not only as a photographer, but as his Mother as well. It reminds me of who he is right now and what he is in to. When I look back at his pictures when he is older, I want to be able to remember that moment in his life. This is why I love capturing children as they are, not in stiff clothes or posed positions. Today was my first "Celebrate Adoption" session. This sweet baby girl was three weeks old and accompanied by her Mom, Dad and Grandmother. I have been wanting to take part in Celebrating Adoption (which is an national organization of photographers dedicated to promoting adoption) for a very long time and this sweet family gave me the opportunity to do so. I'm going to start making this program available on a monthly basis.

They are twelve years apart (which is pretty close to the age difference between my little sister Christian and me) and it reminded me of my favorite years with Christian. I did a session today for my sister as a goodbye present to her boyfriend, who is moving to Tuscaloosa this weekend to start school at The University of Alabama. I got to tryout one of my new props on her (the red couch in the first picture that I just LOOOVVEEE!!!!!) I wanted to give them a little teaser before I leave bright and early in the morning at 6:00a.m. to go to Las Vegas for a photography conference. I won't be back until late Monday night so if anyone needs me I won't be able to call or email back until Tuesday morning! Amber

No More On-line Galleries

Hey Everyone, we are implementing a new policy in which all orders have to be made at the studio. I regret that we will no longer be able to do online galleries, due to the fact that we have found that many people are screen capturing the images and printing them off instead of ordering and also using them for other things such as facebook, myspace, etc. I really appreciate everyone who has stuck to the copyright laws and policies. I want to be able to continue to provide quality images as well as provide for my family and this is the only way I know in which to do so. My deepest apologies, Amber

We had a session this morning with these two brothers and they were both so sweet. When I told the boys to sit down for this shot, big brother automatically put his arm around his little brother. Most of the time with siblings we have to bribe them to be this sweet to each other, but it came naturally to them. I love this picture! From her windblown hair, to all the colors; this image makes me happy! This session was exciting for me, because Ms. P has been apart of our lives for about seven years. Her and my sister have been good friends since middle school and I have so many fond and funny memories from these girls "growing up years". I always get a little more nervous when I do sessions for people that are close to me (friends, family, etc) because I want them love their images more than anyone and I love how all of these turned out. We had a very fun and energetic session with little Miss E this morning. Along for the ride were her Grandmother, Aunts, Mom and Chester (her grandmother's labradoodle). With this age, everyone always worries that we're not going to get anything from the session because of how explorative they are, but we got some incredible shots. I just loved the way the top one turned out and of course I had to add one of Chester too. Amber

I have to admit.....when the client for today's session showed up I was super excited to photograph her. I puffy heart love black hair! If only I knew for sure that mine would look natural I would dye it tomorrow! But back to the shoot.......we were super worried that it was going to rain our session out, but it turned out being overcast instead (which is a photographer's dream for lighting)! The Class of 2010 at Guntersville is really special to me, because my sister is one of the seniors in it. So, it makes it even funer (yes I'm aware thats not really a word.....but more fun didn't seem to work in this case) being able to work with the girls that she is friends with. Today's senior session happened to be one of Chris's friends and it was so laid back and relaxing.
